Taking A Chance

Taking A Chance

A chance meeting between Joseph Walker Humphrey and a newly qualified, young baker with limited experience in the industry, sparked a successful career and lifelong business relationship over three generations.

Walker Humphrey are proud to have been a part of this success and we wish Judith a very happy retirement.

Dear Walker Humphrey

I am writing to let you know that I have finally retired and closed my shop after 32 years of business – Simply Cakes in Chapel Allerton.

I will still be working part time from my home under the Simply Cakes now as I do have loyal customers who want me to carry on.

It is down to Mr Joseph Walker Humphrey that my shop has been so successful for so long. I met him at a bakery exhibition in Harrogate in 1986, when I had just finished my C&G at Thomas Danby College. I had no experience of running a business and
had no track record and he was one of only two companies willing to take a chance on me. I will be forever grateful for all his help (and yours) over the past years.

I am a great believer of loyalty, so even when other companies came calling I refused to trade with them (especially those that showed no interest in the beginning).

I wish you all the best for the future and I will continue trading on a smaller basis from my home address.

Kind regards
Judith Meek
